Alumna Sarah Cain Named Principal of the Year

Ms. Sarah Cain, a December 1994 graduate of UNC Asheville with a major in history and certification in history and social studies grades 6-12, has been named Asheville City Schools Principal of the Year for 2012-2013.

Sarah recalls with fondness UNC Asheville’s “small university setting” where faculty “knew my name and went out of their way to build positive relationships with me.” She enjoyed all of her history classes but singles out Dr. Milton Ready’s classes for building her confidence and preparedness. As a teacher and school principal, she works “to make children feel that same connection to learning” at every grade level.

Sarah’s previous professional appointments include four years as a teacher for Buncombe County Schools and seven years as a teacher and administrator at Asheville Middle School. She has been Principal at Ira B. Jones Elementary since 2010.
